Following your return from Alta Vathor, speak to Ralsa Ondusi in the laboratories area of the Narsis Guild of Mages about Passwall. She describes two routes of research that Archmage Ysadora pursued. The first ended in disaster and involved the BALROG. The second was a method proposed by a Summerset Isle exile called Katylinwe of Telatessa. Ralsa asks that you speak to Katylinwe in her home near the Guild of Fighters in the Foreign Quarter to determine what this method was. Do so. Katylinwe is forthcoming about what she knows. Apparently, while most items enchanted with Passwall lost those enchantments with the Warp in the West, one potent example may have retained traces of the dead spell. Katylinwe believes this to be in the possession of a vampire called Dhaunayne Aundae, known to be somewhere on Vvardenfell.
Ask your compatriots at the guild hall about Dhaunayne Aundae. Both Ralsa and Gilimeg there will point you to Skink-in-Tree's-Shade in the guildhall on Sadrith Mora (you can use guild guides to get here via Vivec). Skinks... in turn will point you to Ashmelech, on one of the islands southwest of the main island of Sheogorad (that main island being the one with Dagon Fel). You can get to Dagon Fel by boat from Sadrith Mora via Firewatch.
Enter Ashmelech (the entrance looks like that of an ancestral tomb) and slay Dhaunayne Aundae within. Then take the Amulet of Passwall (Damaged) from her. Bring this to Ralsa back at the Narsis guildhall. She'll take it from you and will ask you to meet her in the Genatorium. Go to this area in the guildhall's basement and speak to Ralsa once more. She'll give you the Enchanted Gem of Passwall that she extracted from the amulet, with instructions to place it in the containment field over the BALROG. Activate the field to do so, then speak to Ralsa again. An animation will occur with the BALROG. Once this has concluded, retrieve the Enchanted Gem of Passwall from above the BALROG, and give it to Ralsa to receive the restored Amulet of Passwall in exchange. This completes the quest.

I brought Dhaunayne Aundae's inert Amulet of Passwall back to Ralsa Ondusi. She said that we may be able to reawaken the spell inside it using the BALROG, and told me to meet her in the Genatorium of the Narsis Mages Guild.

I met Ralsa Ondusi in the Genatorium. She gave me the gem from the Passwall amulet and told me to place it into the containment field above the BALROG.
