Quick Walkthrough[edit]
- Speak to Ereven Baryl in Heron Hall about Orders. He will tell you there are two people with orders for you that you need to go visit, Vilius Ralsus and Fethas Hlaalu.
- Selecting Fethas Hlaalu, he will let you know that Fethas resides at Riverkeep, south of Narsis. Head out the backdoor of Heron Hall and turn right, and go along the river. Riverkeep is across the river from Narsis.
- Head into Riverkeep and speak with Duke Fethas Hlaalu. He offers one name, Vaniken Drath. He wants him gone.
- Asking Fethas for more information on Vaniken Drath, he will state that Vaniken is a dealer at a casino in Narsis, the Fortuna, in the Waterfront district. He wants you to go there and get rid of him.
- There are two routes here:
- Go straight to the Fortuna and to the third floor from the outside (It looks like the second floor), speak to Vaniken at his table and tell him the Duke wants him gone. He will ask for 2,000 gold. If you give him the gold, the quest is done and you can go back to the Duke for turn-in, acquiring as a reward: 600 gold and a Duke's Guard Silver Cuirass, and move onto Rabble-Rousing if you haven't done that quest already prior to this one.
- If you want to get deeper into the quest instead, head back to Heron Hall and speak to Commander Baryl about Vaniken Drath. He will tell you that an agent of the Imperial Legion has been tailing Drath for some time, by the name of Horatia Statilius. She hangs out at the Fortuna, watching Drath.
- Head to the Fortuna and speak with Horatia. Head straight out of Heron Hall, up the two large staircases in front of Heron Hall, straight through the plaza through the double arches, and the building in front of you is the Fortuna.
- Head up the stairs on the outside and into the Fortuna, and locate Vaniken at his table, servicing some customers with cards. Horatia is standing there as well as a "customer". When you speak to her, she'll comment about Vaniken's crap card-playing and walk away. Follow her the short distance and talk to her again.
- Speak to her about "Vaniken Drath" again and she'll mention he goes behind a warehouse belonging to the Hlaalu Council Company in the Market Quarter quite often. Head there now, it's the building north of the Grand Bazaar building.
- Circle the warehouse building until you're able to get behind the L-shaped building. In a small nook there is a small chest tucked away in a corner, easily missable. Open it and it contains 1137 gold and Vaniken Drath's Notebook. Take all of it, and go back to the Fortuna.
- Speak with Horatia about the evidence you found. She says that you need to convince him to leave, as if the casino owners find out he's stealing money from the casino, he's dead.
- There are two options here, which both have the same outcome of you completing the quest:
- Tell Vaniken Drath you found his ledger and money. He will ask for the ledger and money back, and skip town. You can then go back to Fethas Hlaalu and complete the quest to receive 600 gold and a Duke's Guard Silver Cuirass, and move onto Rabble-Rousing if you haven't done that quest already prior to this one.
- You go down to the ground floor and speak to the guard guarding the Private Rooms, and tell him that you have proof Vaniken Drath is stealing from the casino. The guard will take the ledger (but not the 1137 gold). You can then go back to Fethas Hlaalu and complete the quest to receive 600 gold and a Duke's Guard Silver Cuirass, and move onto Rabble-Rousing if you haven't done that quest already prior to this one.
Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
On talking to Ereven Baryl for the last quest, you probably also acquired this quest as well at the same time, however they deal with entirely different issues and people. You'll have to head to Riverkeep to speak with Duke Fethas Hlaalu, south-southwest of Narsis. Riverkeep is visible from Heron Hall's backdoor port area, turning to the right from behind the building if you're facing the river.
Heading into Riverkeep and speaking with Duke Fethas Hlaalu, he mentions one name: Vaniken Drath. Upon speaking with him further, he expands upon the name, letting you know he knows a little too much, and wants him gone. He works as a dealer at the Fortuna casino on the Waterfront.
- From here, it should be noted the quest can be cut extremely short. You can go straight to Vaniken Drath in the Fortuna, on the third floor (entrance is up the stairs on the outside of the building) and tell him the Duke wants him gone. He'll ask for 2,000 gold. If you give it to him, he's gone, and you can turn in the quest at Duke Fethas Hlaalu for 600 gold and a Duke's Guard Silver Cuirass, and move onto Rabble-Rousing if you haven't done that quest already prior to this one.
Head back to Heron Hall after this and speak to Commander Baryl about Vaniken Drath.
He'll tell you that one of the Legion's agents came to Narsis trailing him actually, Horatia Statilius. He says she hangs out there quite often, keeping an eye on Vaniken Drath.
Heading to the casino (Head straight out of Heron Hall, up the two large staircases in front of Heron Hall, straight through the plaza through the double arches, and the building in front of you is the Fortuna) and up the stairs on the outside, you'll need to locate Drath's table on this floor. Once you do, you'll also locate Horatia acting like a customer for Drath's card game. When you speak to her about Vaniken Dren, she'll comment on his horrible card skills and walk away a little. Speak to her again about Vaniken Dren and she'll tell you what she knows:
You're looking into him for the Legion? I've been on his trail since he swindled some tourists out of their jewels in Old Ebonheart -- allegedly. I've only just caught up with him, but if he's pulling a grift here it's too subtle for my talents. All I've learned is that he sometimes leaves the Fortuna and goes to a back alley behind the Hlaalu Council Company warehouse in the Market Quarter. You might want to investigate that place.
Head over to that specific warehouse. From the casino, head over to that staircase everything seems to gravitate around, between the Trade Quarter and the St. Veloth Quarter, near the Grand Bazaar and the sewer entrance to the St. Veloth Sewers. The warehouse is north of the Grand Bazaar, the literal building just north of the Grand Bazaar building.
Circle around the warehouse until you can get behind it, and tucked away in a little nook is a small chest. (Key location unknown, has 50 level lock + trap.) Pick the lock on the chest and disarm the trap, and open the chest. There's a notebook and 1137 gold inside. Take the notebook, labeled 'Vaniken Drath's Notebook', and read it. Your journal will be updated.
Heading back to the Fortuna and speaking with Horatia, she says that Drath will be killed extremely quickly if he is found out, since he is stealing from the Casino itself. She tells you to convince him to leave the casino.
Speaking with Vaniken Drath with the ledger in your inventory gives you the option to tell him you found his ledger, and threaten him with it, telling him to leave town or you'll tell his employers. After selecting that option, he asks you for the 1137 gold that was inside of the chest, and the ledger. If you give it to him, you can head back to Fethas Hlaalu for quest completion.
However if you tell him No to giving him the money and the ledger, he tells you his bosses are the Camonna Tong. Head downstairs to the ground floor, and talk to the guy next to the Private Rooms door. You can tell him that you have evidence Drath is stealing from the Fortuna. The guy will take the ledger from you, but not the 1137 gold. You can then go back to Fethas and complete the quest. He will give you 600 gold and a Duke's Guard Silver Cuirass, and move onto Rabble-Rousing if you haven't done that quest already prior to this one.
