Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Xorolagora the Shearflame with the Vat of Acid

The Drake of Blades awaits you in the Elven Gardens District. She's waiting to meet her contact in Legion Zero, an Imperial named Captain Regilus. Molag Bal's minions had the members of Legion Zero drink some sort of poison as a form of initiation. It makes the soldiers aggressive and erratic. Captain Regilus drank the brew given to the legion by the Daedra to maintain his cover, and the Drake is worried that Regilus may be lost to her. You will offer to find him.

The Drake and Regilus have a system for meeting each other. When she wants to make contact, the Drake draws the seal of the Dragonguard on a wall near the thoroughfare crossing; this is the signal to meet in the sewer hideout. Head to the center of the district and drawl the sigil on a south-facing wall along the side of the road. The easiest way there is to stop in front of the District flag, hug the southern wall, and start moving west. When you draw the sigil, you'll hear Captain Regilus, who tells you to meet him in the hideout. Head east and enter the sewers beneath the flag; this is where the Elven Gardens Safe House is located.

It's very clear that Captain Regilus is in a bad spot. He's attempting to fight back against the corruption. He's quite snippy at the moment, which he apologizes for. The captain confirms the Drake's fear that he's losing the battle against Molag Bal's corruption, and informs you that the Daedra have found a key to an ancient door deep beneath the city. Apparently, the Daedra are looking for some kind of relic. Captain Regilus wants you to forge a copy of this key, take the real one, and leave the forgery in its place so the real thing can be put into safe hands without the enemy noticing. This will also give you time to learn more about the relic.

Regilus hands you a Key Mold to fabricate the false key with. You need to take scrap metal from the Legion Zero soldiers walking around the district so you can cast a key in the western forge. Regilus tells you that you should bathe the forgery in an acid bath in the laboratory on the northwest side of the district so it looks old and worn, just like the actual key. He wants you to meet him at the groundskeeper's storehouse after you've done the job.

Leave the safe house and find three pieces of Scrap Metal. You'll be able to acquire some by killing Xivkyn and Legion Zero cronies around the district. Once you have three pieces of scrap metal, head over to the southwestern corner of the district to forge so you can make the false key. You'll find the Metalworking Equipment north of the Sewer Entrance. This part of the western forge is manned by two Legion Zero Dreadnaughts, and a Xivkyn Hammerfist occasionally walks over to peek in on their progress. Watch out for a powerful named Xivkyn, Kazarvel Scathe-Knight; you may want to consider avoiding him so as to not complicate your task.

Fabricate the False Key, then head north, past the portal, navigating the district's outer road. When you reach the crossroads, head east towards the center of the district. You'll want to head down the street at the four-way intersection leading northeast. Stick to the left-hand side of the street and take the first left; once you take that left, you'll find yourself in an alley between two buildings. The one to your left had its door knocked off its hinges; you'll find an Ode to a Torchbug inside. The building to the right in the alley is the laboratory, and your destination.

A powerful Xivkyn mage named Xorolagora the Shearflame tends the laboratory. Two Legion Zero Dreadnaughts are assisting around the lab. You are very likely to catch her and her assistants' attention while you're here anyway, so go ahead and dispose of them, then bathe the false key in the vat of acid near the Daedric bookshelves. The table beside the vat has two soul gems on it, should you need any. Take your Acid-Bathed False Key and head west to meet Captain Regilus in the Groundskeeper's Storehouse.

The captain informs you that the key is locked away in the old counting house down the street. A Xivkyn named Zolgar the Brutal watches over it. The captain is going to unlock the door for you, then he's going to distract Zolgar while you enter the counting house and swap out the Ancient Key for the fake one. Exit the storehouse, jump off the room, and head south, crossing the central street. The Plundered Counting House is in this alley, on the right-hand side of the street just before you reach the portal at the western forge. Enter the counting house and swap out the two keys, while you're there, Captain Regilus will be speaking to Zolgar the Brutal. Regilus tells Zolgar that a spy has infiltrated the ranks of Legion Zero. At first, his superior is dismissive, uninterested in such things. However, Regilus sways him with talk of glory, and gets the creature to lean in to have the captain whisper the spy's name. Regilus subsequently stabs Zolgar, sending his spirit back to Oblivion for a time.

When you switch out the keys, exit the counting house and meet Captain Regilus back at the safe house beneath the flag. Head north towards the central road, then walk east down the street. Once you arrive, you'll need to speak with Captain Regilus.

"Any problems with the switch? I hope not, I can't quite pull that off twice."
What happened back there? I thought this was supposed to be quiet.
"I'd say I don't know what came over me, but I do. It's the corruption taking hold.
I … I killed him, but at least it was behind closed doors. This will work to our advantage. There will be infighting as they try to figure out who murdered Zolgar."
So what now?
"Bring the key and this report to the Drake. It's everything I have written down on what we accomplished.
As for me, I'm too much of a risk now. I'm losing control of myself and I can't be allowed to tell them what we did."
What are you going to do?
"You and I both know what needs to be done. Thank you for helping me complete one last mission."
I understand. Goodbye, Captain.
"Oh—and when you see the Drake, tell her …. Never mind. Just look after her, all right?"

The captain hands you a scroll and says his goodbye. After this conversation, Captain Regilus downs a bottle of poison, killing himself. It is time to bring Regilus's Sealed Report to the Drake of Blades back in your Alliance base. If you're part of the Daggerfall Covenant, you can enter the sewer grate right here in the Elven Gardens District to return to your base. If you're part of the Ebonheart Pact, you'll need to head next door northeast, to the Memorial District, in order to enter a sewer grate that leads to your Alliance's section of the sewers. Members of the Aldmeri Dominion will need to do a little more legwork in order to reach their base without dying; head south into the Nobles District, then continue southeast into the Temple District to enter your sewers.
