Walkthrough[edit]
At the end of the previous quest, Irena has told you that your knights, along with Countess Carvain leading a force of Bruma guards, have run off to the old Order Castle in order to clean out the bandit infestation. Head up there, and you'll meet Helgarth at the bridge to the castle. He'll tell you that Ocato and his men managed to bluff their way in and killed all the defenders, though your knights and the countess fled to safety in the crypt. He'll wait out there while you infiltrate the castle. There are a dozen or so guards scattered around the outer courtyard; you don't have to kill them all if you don't want to. Make your way to the drawbridge and gain entry to the castle (look up the wall to the left of the gate, and you'll see a capstan on a ledge; shoot it with a bow or spell, and it will lower the drawbridge).
In the inner courtyard, you'll meet Ocato and some more guards; he'll confront you, then you can kill him. After you've cleared the area, head back to the gate and meet up with the countess. She'll tell you that "a shadow" slipped into the main keep, and give you the key. Go inside, follow the trail of dead bodies (Ocato's men) and you'll find Pelagius, who will give you the background on Tyrfing and his presence. After this, you'll get a journal entry telling you to return to the countess.
When you get back to the cemetery, you'll find that the countess has left for the Imperial City to address the Elder Council. This ends the quest.

My talkative cook said she would miss me painfully. The Order Knights moved to the old manor in the north to expel the rebels who have settled there. Apparently they have asked for help from the Countess of Bruma for this purpose, because the Order Castle is in her county. So, on to the Order Castle! |

At the door to the Order Castle, I met Thoralf. He says that shortly after they expelled the marauders, Legion soldiers showed up and asked for entrance. When they entered, they knocked down some of the Bruma City guards and took the castle under their control. Since they are accompanied by Ocato, Thoralf suspected that the soldiers are disguised rebels who now want to capture the Countess. However, she was able to escape into the crypt. |

Ocato has occupied the castle in the knowledge that I would show up here soon. He wanted to kill two birds with one stone - take the Countess in custody, and off me to get to the sword. It seems he thinks that I have it. If he knew that I only posses the hilt... but anyway, we have a score to settle. I owe this Mephala-damned pointy-ear for having to wander through the desert for half an eternity. |

Ocato is defeated. So, the crisis that worked from inside the kingdom should be eliminated. The Council should know about it, but first I have to see how it goes with Countess Carvain. What did Thoralf say? She's in the crypt? |

The Countess is unharmed, but she seems to be weakened. She speaks incoherently. HE has awoken, and she has awoken HIM. I should find the answer to this riddle in the main house of the Order Castle. However, I should be prepared for small groups of scattered rebels. I have surely not caught all of them. |

Pelagius the Mad is alive! The Emperor who sat on the throne three hundred years ago is in the main keep of my castle, looking into the fire. He told me a story, according to which he never found death, but incurred Mephala's wrath on himself. In order not to succumb to the Daedra's revenge, he allowed himself to be sealed in the local crypt. |

Using Tyrfing the sword mentioned in the prophecy, we created a seal that was so strong that even the Daedra couldn't break it. Countess Carvain wore Tyrfing's hilt as an amulet around her neck, which enabled her to free Pelagius again in the end. |

Pelagius said I am now charged with the theft of the hilt, and have brought down Mephala's tireless anger on myself. His servants are chasing me while I'm still alive. Therefore, it is now important to inform the Council of all the events and ask again for help and then recharge the gem. The stone comes from the Ayleid that filled it with power using ancient beasts that lived in the bones of the Heartland. |

I should speak again with the Countess; maybe she's regained her strength and can advise me on the next step. |

Finishes quest |
When I returned to the cemetery, Sorla told me that the Countess has already left the Imperial City. Helgarth and her bodyguards accompanied her. So, on to the Elder Council. Perhaps it is now finally ready to concede me the deserved help. |
- Notes
- Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
- If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
- It is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering
setstage ODDHQ04Festung stage
, where stage
is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
