Ravil Fandrani

Ravil Fandrani is a Dark Elf sorcerer and the head of the delegation of College of Whispers members working to turn Frostcrag Spire into an official cynosure. During Whispers of the Mountain he will point you in the direction of Astor Astentius, while in the other related quest he will task you with eliminating a runaway scamp.

When you first enter the tower, he questions you. After answering you he returns to his schedule, waking up early at 5am and eating a quick breakfast before relaxing in the tower until 9am. For the next nine hours, he will busy himself around the main hall, breaking off for dinner at 6pm. After relaxing in his quarters for the rest of the evening, he heads to bed at midnight.

Ravil wears a College of Whispers robes, farmer's gloves and mage boots, and carries a filled grand soul gem, the spell tome Frost Flames and a random selection of gold, lockpicks, gems, jewelry, food and drink. As well as being armed with an Orcish dagger, Ravil is able to cast the spells Conjure Scamp, Fast Healing, Fireball, Firebolt, Greater Ward, Icy Fireball, Incinerate, Ironflesh, Revenant, Wall of Flames.

Dialogue[edit]

When you first enter the tower, he will immediately challenge you:

"Ho there, traveler. What's your business in Frostcrag Spire?"
I could ask you the same question.
"As you can see, I am here with a College reclamation team. Frostcrag Spire has been claimed under Imperial doctrine as a transient College of Whispers cynosure. We are trying to discover anything of magical interest in this Spire. So, again, I ask you what your business here is."
I'm here on behalf of the Synod.
"The Synod? The Synod have no right to this place, this is soon to be a fully fledged College of Whispers cynosure. I am quite bewildered at this turn of events. As you can see, I am here with a College reclamation team. We are trying to discover anything of magical interest in this Spire. What are you here for?"
None of your business.
"Ah, but it is. Frostcrag Spire and everything within it are property of the College of Whispers. If you want any access to this tower, you go through us, or more specifically, me. Otherwise, you had better turn tail and leave. So, are you going to tell me or are you going to leave?"
I think I'll just take my leave.
"If you prefer, I won't stop you, but I will have my eye on you."
No official business. I just had some questions.
"Hmm, I suppose this is still a College of Whispers cynosure, or almost one. Fine, just ask your questions, then make your way out. We don't need Synod spies or vagabonds roaming around the Spire."

When seeing you again, he greets you with:

"This territory belongs to the College of Whispers. What brings you to the top of this frigid mountain?"
"Yes? What is your business here?"
"I'm listening, but make it snappy, will you?"
"Unless you have business here, I would ask that you leave and let the mages do their jobs."

You can then ask him a few questions:

What are you doing here again?
"We are here performing important research for the College of Whispers. Now are you going to get to the point of this conversation, or am I going to have to stand here and repeat myself?"
What can you tell me about the College of Whispers?
"We are an organization devoted to the study of magic in all of its forms. Unlike those close-minded Synod mages over in Bruma, we do not restrict our members simply out of ignorance and fear. Necromancy and Conjuration are as much schools of magic as Restoration and Illusion, whether the public approves of them or not."
Can I join the College?
"As much as I appreciate your enthusiasm, no. In our current state, Frostcrag Spire is still not officially recognized as a proper cynosure. Even if it was, in the cynosure's current state, I do not yet have the power to appoint associates. You may wish to check back at a later date, once the Imperial council acknowledges our request. We can always use the members."
What's a cynosure?
"A cynosure is a place of magical significance, a headquarters, and a research site all in one. You probably think of it like a sort of conclave. I can assure you it is not. The Synod have conclaves, based out of the old Mages Guild halls. The College of Whispers have cynosures, the proper term for any magical hall and place of study. So, was there anything else?"
Okay then.
"So, was there anything else?"

He will take his leave with:

"Watch your step on the way out."
"Now, back to what I was doing."

Quest-Related Dialogue[edit]

Whispers of the Mountain[edit]

If you're on a mission from Cadius Venucius of the Bruma Synod Conclave to investigate the odd appearances at the Conclave, when Ravil asks about your business you can answer:

I'm trying to solve a mystery.
"Mystery? What kind of mystery?"
Strange items have been appearing in the conclave. We think they came from here.
"Well, I can assure you that we are in... no way... responsible. Hrm. On second thought, I'm not so sure. The only thing I can say is to check with Master Astor Astentius here in the cynosure. Something tells me he might have something to do with your little mystery."

Should decide to side with Astor and repair the teleport portals, Ravil will reward you:

I helped Astor repair the portal.
"Oh, you were the one, eh? I heard about that. Good work. Ah, I suppose you're probing for a reward for your service. Let's see here... ah, yes, take this. It's an old dagger my team found in one of the ruins during our journey here. The things are fairly common in Ayleid ruins, so the College won't miss it. Has a nifty enchantment, though. Thanks."

Kill the scamp for Ravil Fandrani[edit]

If you ask Ravil if there are any tasks he needs assistance with, he will say:

Do you need help with anything?
"Help? Hmm... well, since you asked... possibly. I need someone to fix a mistake a member of my team decided to disrupt our busy schedule with. Unfortunately, none of us has had the time to tend to it as of yet. What say you?"
What would I be doing, exactly?
"This is a strictly confidential matter, so I'll need you to confirm you're willing to help before I inform you of the details. So, what say you?"
No thanks.
"Hmm, not quite sure why you offered, then. Very well."
Okay, what is it?
"Much appreciated. You see, during one of my more, ehem, eccentric, member's early Conjuration experiments... She made an error in judgement and attempted a Conjuration spell which was beyond her capabilities. While she did successfully summon a scamp, the binding process was flawed and now the spawn is running wild through the Jeralls."
Scamp?
"Aye. It's one of the lesser forms of Daedra. Small, wily spellslingers. Ugly little bleeders. Completely impotent. Might even say they're the Daedric equivalent of a Synod mage."
Where is this creature?
"Last we saw, it was headed south, toward Bold Man's Respite. Start there and when you find it, return it to Oblivion for me. Now go, and try not to die."

When you return after having successfully tracked the scamp down to the Hunter's Shack on the southern slopes of the mountain, Ravil will reward you:

I've killed the scamp.
"Yes, I already know. I asked a little friend of ours to watch over you and make sure you followed through. Well done. Here's some gold. Now, if you'll excuse me..."

Conversations[edit]

While in Frostcrag Spire, you may overhear the following conversation between Ravil and Astor:

Ravil: "Astor, how are you feeling? How goes your research?"
Astor: "Fine, fine, don't worry about me. The vault portal still has yet to yield to me, but don't you worry. I'll find a way."
Ravil: "Glad to hear it. Keep up the good work."

If you convince Alavva Venucius to join the College during Undeath at Underpall, you may witness her arriving at the cynosure:

Ravil: "So, you're petitioning to join the Whispers, are you? What did you say your last profession was again?"
Alavva: "Profession? Well, necromancer..."
Ravil: "Hmm, and you say other halls recommended you? Very well, just don't start any trouble here. We don't condone unsupervised necromantic rituals among the lower ranks."
Alavva: "I'll try to restrain myself, thank you."
