Icons[edit]

This discussion relates to a previous version of this sandbox.

Just a minor observation, (He says, desperate to upset any more people this week ;o)

I really like the tables, and I think it's very easy to follow, except that the Morrowind Resist Icons all basically look pretty much the same? (Ok, reflect is a different colour so that one at least stands out a bit.)

I was just wondering if there was any other icons from Morrowind that could be used to make it more obvious at a glance which column was what? Jadrax 18:45, 25 February 2007 (EST)

Unfortunately, no. For Oblivion, I had the same problem - all the resists use the exact same icon: OB-icon-Resist.png. But in that case I used the elemental damage icons FireIcon small.pngFrostIcon small.pngPoisonIcon small.pngShockIcon small.png instead, and it worked pretty well. That wouldn't help in this case, as the Morrowind elemental damage icons MW-icon-effect-Fire Damage.jpgMW-icon-effect-Frost Damage.jpgMW-icon-effect-Poison.jpgMW-icon-effect-Shock Damage.jpg are only a bit better than the resists MW-icon-effect-Resist Fire.jpgMW-icon-effect-Resist Frost.jpgMW-icon-effect-Resist Poison.jpgMW-icon-effect-Resist Shock.jpg or weakness MW-icon-effect-Weakness to Fire.jpgMW-icon-effect-Weakness to Frost.jpgMW-icon-effect-Weakness to Poison.jpgMW-icon-effect-Weakness to Shock.jpg. I could use the Oblivion icons on the Morrowind pages. It wouldn't be the first time I've done that. I used the Oblivion weight/health/value icons on all the items pages I did, and I am using the Oblivion heart icon for the Health already. Any opinions? --TheRealLurlock Talk 00:04, 28 February 2007 (EST)
One thing I did notice after looking at various morrowind pages for ideas, is that the Spell Vendor page, which has a similar issue gets around it by colouring in the background in the colour associated with the spell school. Maybe something similar would work here? Apart from that, I think the oblivion icons may be clearer, would be interesting to see what other people think. Jadrax 03:33, 28 February 2007 (EST)
Heh. Another one of mine. Only problem is that while we have standardized colors for spell-schools, we don't have a similar system in place for elemental resists. I suppose I could start one, but in this case it might get a little confusing? Plus, what colors would you use for Resist Normal Weapons, Magicka, Paralysis, etc.? I'm thinking the Oblivion icons are probably the best way to go. As MacFodder said, they're just more intuitive. Another point of contention - should I just remove "Resist Common Disease"? As far as I'm aware, there is no way for any entity in the game other than you the player to contract a disease from anyone. Thus, all creatures (and in fact all NPCs as well) are in effect 100% immune to disease. Unless anybody knows differently? --TheRealLurlock Talk 09:32, 28 February 2007 (EST)

I noticed your discussion, love the tables - I think the way you've used the Oblivion symbols with the the positive/negative aspect is nice and easy to comprehend for resist vs weakness. They are more intuitive and cleaner - I couldn't remember or even identify half of the old Morrowind ones (bad eyes...they give me gyp..) --MacFodder 04:50, 28 February 2007 (EST)
