Welcome![edit]

Hello Morrolan! Welcome to UESPWiki. It's always good to have new members. If you would like to help improve any of our pages, you may want to take a look at the following links:

If you would like to spice up your userpage, click here for a list of userboxes you can use, including a guide to making your own.

When you're editing, it's always a good idea to leave edit summaries to explain the changes you have made to a particular page, and remember to sign your talk page posts with four tildes ~~~~. Also, the "show preview" button is a great way to view the changes you've made so far without actually saving the page (our patrollers really appreciate it!).

Feel free to practice editing in the sandbox or discuss the games in the forums. If you need any help, don't hesitate to contact one of our mentors. Have fun! eshetalk 13:20, 16 October 2012 (GMT)

Welcome Some More[edit]

Echoing eshe, welcome to the wiki! I noticed that you have made two helpful/thoughtful edits.

Regarding the categorization of Forbidden Legend, it looks to me that you are right-on. It does not meet the "dungeons" category's definition. I went ahead and reorganized the page based on this. There would have been nothing wrong with you recategorizing it if you had wanted to. If anyone had disagreed with such an action, they would have either made a further change and (hopefully) explained why, or they may have discussed it with you by posting a note here on your talk page, or underneath your comment on the Side Quests talk page. In general, you don't need to be too careful about such things, because other eyes will see what you've done, and someone will change it or discuss the issue with you if they disagree with your action. To make extra sure that other people see what I did, I added a reply to your observation, and also put a note on the quest's talk page. If you want to make such a change yourself in the future, but are not sure how to do it technically, or whether it's consistent with the wiki's policies or normal practices, feel free to ask anyone for help or advice, certainly including me. I've been around long enough to at least have ideas on to whom or where to point you if I can't answer a question myself.

Your edit here also looks helpful. Do you know what happens if you already belong to the Thieves Guild when you pick up the first stone? If so, you can edit more deeply if you want, or ask me or someone else to collaborate with you if you want to, but are unsure how to go about it. If you don't want to do anything more with that, don't worry. It's a positive contribution and sooner or later, it will stimulate someone to refine the article further. Hope to see more contributions from you. --JR (talk) 17:38, 17 October 2012 (GMT)

this was a useful edit. Help like that makes this Wiki great (great sometimes and in some ways). --JR (talk) 19:08, 8 January 2013 (GMT)

Well, I'm trying. Still getting used to this wiki's standards. I'd been using UESP for years while playing Morrowind & Oblivion, decided to start helping out with Skyrim given that everything in Skyrim is so new still. --Morrolan (talk) 16:10, 9 January 2013 (GMT)

Breezehome[edit]

Concerning your edit here, how? There is a possible bug that could let you buy the house without being thane, but unless bugs happen in the vast majority of games, they aren't listed in the main article and are ignore. If not a bug, I am still curious as to how it's possible. Vely►t►e 19:32, 24 January 2013 (GMT)

When you help the Stormcloaks conquer Whiterun, you lose your Thane status. It is possible to get it back by talking to the new Jarl (and helping 5 people in Whiterun Hold, which most people have already done but isn't a requirement to get Thane status the first time) but you don't have to do that in order to buy Breezehome.
This isn't unique to Whiterun. Whenever you use the Civil War storyline or Seasons Unending to switch the Jarl of a hold in which you are Thane you lose your Thane status there but do not lose any property you may have in the hold, and the new Jarl is always grateful to you for your intervention to his/her benefit and willing to let you buy property there. The only city this never happens to is Solitude.
Also, if you follow the main quest closely, you will see that you are allowed to buy Breezehome immediately after completing Bleak Falls Barrow, while you do not become Thane until the end of Dragon Rising. --Morrolan (talk) 19:44, 24 January 2013 (GMT)

Oops![edit]

Hey, sorry about that—I meant to delete both effects of Beast Blood but something went wrong with the edit window and my using the back button a couple of times, and I guess I just straight up undid you by accident. My bad! eshetalk 18:32, 21 February 2013 (GMT)

lol it's OK. I was puzzled by your edit but because you commented your edit correctly at least you helped me spot the other one that I'd missed before. :) --Morrolan (talk) 18:40, 21 February 2013 (GMT)
Yeah, this is just really more evidence to support the theory that I should never edit try anything without a certain level of caffeine in my system...Eshe - coffee = fail :P. eshetalk 18:50, 21 February 2013 (GMT)

Forbidden Legend[edit]

Can you explain your change, the quest isn't tagged as one at all. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 16:31, 16 March 2013 (GMT)

I brought this up on the Forbidden Legend quest page itself. You have to join the College of Winterhold to complete Forbidden Legend. --Morrolan (talk) 16:33, 16 March 2013 (GMT)
I see that now and have responded. It isn't a college quest technically, so cannot be documented as one. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 16:35, 16 March 2013 (GMT)

[…] at least some of the way […] ?[edit]

I do see what you intend with your recent improvements to Skyrim:Imperial Legion and Skyrim:Stormcloaks, and I must admit I do not remember the details, as there is some time now since I started a new game, but I if my memory is more or less correct, I believe the text is still not fully precise even after your additions. I believe you do not have to follow neither Hadvar nor Ralof after emerging from Helgen Keep. It is enough to rejoin them in Riverwood, I think? —MortenOSlash (talk) 18:01, 10 April 2013 (GMT)

The Hadvar/Ralof invitation more or less happens the next time you run into the guy. If you abort right away after leaving Helgen, running away from your guy while he's ducking Alduin, it's possible to not get invited to join the Legion/Stormcloaks - but if you walk more than a few paces with him he will give you the invitation on the way to Riverwood. The way it was written before it was suggesting you had to go all the way to Riverwood to get the invitation, and that's just not true. He'll invite you before you even get to the standing stones. And yes, you're right, if you abort right away, don't get the invitation, and later show up in Riverwood and bump into him he'll give you the invite then too. --Morrolan (talk) 23:40, 10 April 2013 (GMT)
What would you think if I change it to something like "[…] and then from the keep either accompany him on the road to, or leave and rejoin him in Riverwood, […]" —MortenOSlash (talk) 11:45, 11 April 2013 (GMT)
Sure, whatever. I was just trying to change it from something which was clearly wrong to something which was at least somewhat right. I have no ego about my edits, if you can make the text better then please do. :) --Morrolan (talk) 14:29, 11 April 2013 (GMT)
As you have improved the texts even further during our chat here, I see no point right now. I might approach this a bit too cautiously, but I still feel insecure at times of how things should be, and with my new status as autopatrolled user, I feel an extra obligation to be sure I make it correct. —MortenOSlash (talk) 16:53, 11 April 2013 (GMT)
Huh? No I didn't, and neither did anyone else. I don't really know what the various status designations mean here. Don't worry about being too cautious, though, it's better to be cautious than to get something wrong. Of course I do get stuff wrong sometimes too. Hopefully I get corrected every time :) --Morrolan (talk) 19:55, 11 April 2013 (GMT)

() I do not know why I thought you had made further improvements, but for some reason I did and thought I liked what you had done. Maybe I have spent so much time on UESP I have started dreaming it? It certainly is not there, so I have tried tinkering a bit like I indicated above her on both now. —MortenOSlash (talk) 09:07, 12 April 2013 (GMT)

Hi[edit]

Hey, could you email me/enable your email/chat with me on IRC? :)

Also, congrats on having exactly 1000 edits in Skyrimspace, per Special:Editcount! Vely►t►e 15:07, 14 September 2013 (GMT)

Thanks. I never check my email which is why it's turned off :)
What IRC server do you guys use? I never use web-based IRC finding it too awkward, and I didn't notice any pages indicating what the server info was. --Morrolan (talk) 16:24, 14 September 2013 (GMT)

As a follow-up, I am amazed at how often I question something in an article in my mind, check the talk page, and see that you have posted a topic that addresses my question perfectly. Are you stalking my thought-patterns? --Xyzzy Talk 18:03, 28 September 2013 (GMT)
Well if so, then you're doing the same thing, because that happens to me with your topics & edits too. :) --Morrolan (talk) 20:19, 28 September 2013 (GMT)

Dragonborn radiant location note[edit]

Discussion moved to Template talk:Dragonborn Radiant Location Note#Use of this template.

Plugin/Addon wording[edit]

Can you please not do this, for now? It's fine on Skyrim pages, but it's something that can be done by bot if editors decide it's necessary for Morrowind and Oblivion pages. The CP discussion related to this was about changing the main article names for the purpose of consistency in the sidebar, NOT changing everything on the wiki that references them. Skyrim actually uses this terminology, but Morrowind in particular clearly labeled all those additions as plugins, not add-ons, and the terminology shouldn't be mass-changed everywhere in that namespace without the community agreeing to it. Please wait until further CP discussion can take place before changing anymore in non-Skyrim-related areas. — ABCface 02:58, 30 September 2013 (GMT)

Alright, sorry. I've been doing it for quite a while in all three namespaces, nobody commented before. --Morrolan (talk) 03:21, 30 September 2013 (GMT)
However, if that's the case, then why did Jak Atackka move Oblivion:Downloads to Oblivion:Official Add-Ons and Oblivion:Official Plug-ins to Morrowind:Official Plug-ins? --Morrolan (talk) 03:28, 30 September 2013 (GMT)
Because of the related discussion I was referring to, which was about changing the main article names for the purpose of consistency in the sidebar. The discussion was about the article names, and that's what he changed, not all references to such additions everywhere. — ABCface 03:32, 30 September 2013 (GMT)
Hmm, I was mostly just looking at the links. There's still 65 references to Skyrim:Official Plug-ins as well; it's general wiki usage to change links to pure redirects into links to the pages they redirect to, so that the useless redirect can eventually be removed. But I'll leave it alone. --Morrolan (talk) 03:40, 30 September 2013 (GMT)
It's fine to link past redirects (link to the actual page name rather than the redirect), so feel free to do that for those pages if you'd like to, but the redirects themselves are only removed if they are actually useless. In this case, the redirect should remain in place even if there are no links, because it has a high chance of still being used either in searches or by people who are used to the other terminology, as well as having been historically used for some time. Appropriate redirects are created because they have a purpose, even if they are not linked to on the wiki. Does that make sense? It's one of those things you kind of get a feel for after editing for a while, and I'm not sure how good I am at explaining the rationale behind it. — ABCface 03:50, 30 September 2013 (GMT)

() Yeah, I kinda completely understand what you mean by that. I'm just not sure that the word "plugin" has the meaning you think it does; most people use the term "mod" or "DLC" in my experience. However it's possible that there are folks out there who use the term "plugin" for it, in which case you're right, the redirect isn't useless. (Of course I tend to think that we should have more redirects, not fewer, and if there are folks who use that term then maybe we should have redirects for NS:Add-Ons and NS:Plug-ins etc. so that when people start typing those words in the search box, the little JavaScript popup will give them what they're looking for.) --Morrolan (talk) 03:58, 30 September 2013 (GMT)

Yeah, these days most people definitely use DLC. But there are lots of "old-school" gamers around, some that are used to Morrowind terminology and haven't even touched the newer games. Anyway, those redirects already exist: [1]. :) — ABCface 04:03, 30 September 2013 (GMT)
Well that's weird, because they don't work in my search box. Typing Add gives a lot of different things, well, Shivering:Addiction Morrowind:Addamasartus Skyrim:Addvar etc. but adding the hyphen doesn't seem to do anything, looks like there's a failure in the JavaScript. That could be my browser of course, I'm using an eccentric browser, but oh well.
Skyrim:DLC works though. --Morrolan (talk) 04:10, 30 September 2013 (GMT)
I have the same issue. Searching for "Official Add-Ons" brings up Skyrim:DLC as the 16th result, with the redirect. If "Add-Ons" is going to be the official Skyrim term, it should come up before archived talk page discussions about it.
As far as changing plug-in to add-on in older game namespaces, I believe the (possibly unofficial) consensus was to leave them as-is with the older terms they used (DLC, plug-in, expansion, whatever). --Xyzzy Talk 03:06, 3 October 2013 (GMT)
On the pages they are mostly referred to as plugins or plug-ins, I haven't figured out why it's sometimes not hyphenated. Sometimes they are referred to as mods. --Morrolan (talk) 04:29, 3 October 2013 (GMT)
<gasp> Inconsistency in our articles? Bite your tongue! Seriously, I think plug-in was the most commonly used term in the past, especially for smaller programs, but has lately fallen out of favor. --Xyzzy Talk 04:41, 3 October 2013 (GMT)

() lol all wikis have inconsistencies. If it were up to me I'd probably be calling them all mods, but I'm an old NWN gamer so that's the word that I know. :) --Morrolan (talk) 04:44, 3 October 2013 (GMT)

So...what's the consensus on plug-in/DLC/mod -> add-on in OB & MW? There's a whole bunch of these changes to patrol, and I'd like to take care of them. Do we need to bring it up on the CP? --Xyzzy Talk 03:56, 7 October 2013 (GMT)
Leave the links to Official Add-Ons, restore the labels to what they were before the recent edits. It's on my to-do list already (already got the MW ones, just not all of the OB ones), but I've been busy lately and haven't gotten to it yet. — ABCface 04:04, 7 October 2013 (GMT)
Ok. I'll let you do it. Don't want to risk approaching your level of UESPholicism. Mine's bad enough. --Xyzzy Talk 04:25, 7 October 2013 (GMT)
Here's me being pushy. There are still some of these changes that haven't been dealt with, such as on Oblivion:Arena_(faction). Should I just go ahead and change them back to the original wording? --Xyzzy Talk 19:35, 13 October 2013 (GMT)
I've been working on them as I have the time, but as I've been busy, it's been slowgoing. Feel free to do any amount of them you want to do, they won't go unfixed if you don't get to them though. I have all of them open in a separate browser window for whenever I have time, and I generally refresh to see if anything's changed before getting back to something like that. So if you do some, great. If not, I will, at some point. And remember, the patrol queue lasts 90 days now, rather than 30 as it used to be, so there's no need to feel rushed or anything. — ABCface 20:15, 13 October 2013 (GMT)
Ok. I understand how real life can interfere with the things we love. I'll check out the ones you've done and do the same. Thanks for responding. --Xyzzy Talk 23:20, 13 October 2013 (GMT)

South of Skyrim, Continued[edit]

Looking at what you sent, about where you took Photo0018 from is where I hit the boundary. I was just a little short of that when I was forced to stop. Maybe one of the other Xbox players would be willing to give it a try? Robin Hood  (talk) 19:40, 2 September 2014 (GMT)

I forget who the other one was. The guy posted on Skyrim:Glitches I think. --Morrolan (talk) 02:16, 12 September 2014 (GMT)
Photo0018 is when I am still walking up the snowy walkway south of Fort Neugrad. If you've been stopped there, you're either hitting an invisible wall or the layout is much different than it is on my XBox. --Morrolan (talk) 22:26, 12 September 2014 (GMT)
The layout is the same—that was readily apparent from the pictures—but at least on the PC, that's where you hit the invisible wall that says "You can't go any further" or whatever the wording is. Whether it's your specific game that lets you through or a more general Xbox glitch still needs to be determined. Robin Hood  (talk) 17:31, 13 September 2014 (GMT)
I'm not sure what you mean by my specific game, I have the same Skyrim disc as anyone else, updated to 1.9 via XBox Live. I'm now leaning strongly towards the idea that this is an XBox glitch, because the invisible wall that Dawnguard added is well south of this point. --Morrolan (talk) 01:33, 16 September 2014 (GMT)

Favors[edit]

Hey there! Are you still around? I know you worked on the Favors page, and I'm having an ongoing discussion with Silencer about what actually defines a Favor. Since that page is mostly yours, it would be interesting to know what definition you were using back then. Thanks! --Enodoc (talk) 19:22, 27 June 2019 (UTC)
