Tamriel Rebuilt:Dwemer Ruins

Introduction[edit]
"Resdayn, present day Morrowind, was contested ground between two very different types of mer: the Chimer, who worshipped Daedra, and the Dwemer, who worshipped a profane and secret power." - Nerevar at Red Mountain
Numerous towers and ruins in a distinct style of architecture populate both Vvardenfell and Morrowind's mainland. Once home to the long-lost Dwemer that co-existed with the Chimer of Resdayn, they now stand empty of their creators following their disappearance at the time of the Battle of Red Mountain. While most commonly found within mountainous, volcanic or hilly areas, Dwemer Ruins can also be found in more fertile lands, with the influence of the culture having apparently extended as far south as Kragenmoor and Almalexia, if not into the Deshaan Plains and southernmost Morrowind.
Trade in materials taken from Dwemer ruins is in theory monopolised by the Empire, although these restrictions appear to be widely flouted. Nonetheless, an Empire-sanctioned organization known as the Imperial Archaeological Society (IAS) is responsible for cataloguing and exploring these ancient ruins, and their historians and excavators can be found at several dig sites, including the famed Kemel-Ze. Here they (or other explorers) may face off against the hostile automata that the Dwemer left behind. There can be other dangers too, including bandits and smugglers who have moved into ruins for the sake of plunder, and more solitary occupants such as wizards or vampires. Even the architecture can be an enemy, for some Dwemer traps still function, and an incautious adventurer can quickly find themselves within a suddenly flooding room.
While Dwemer Ruins of a different architecture set (attributed to the Rourken Dwemer of Hammerfell) are under development within Tamriel Rebuilt's sister project, Project Tamriel, these are expected to appear far from Morrowind itself.
