Wanderlust
by Sirnei Afftin
A poem about a life of wandering, through night and winter, without sight of journey's end
The winds have called from the east again
I wonder where I'll be.
The wandering, an endless quest,
Something new I hope to see.
Alas I hail the chilling night,
Alone upon the plains.
And I hold the summer closer,
As its smile slowly wanes.
I dream the world has fallen ill,
With a winter's whispered dream.
And songs have given way to rest,
As the grass with crystals gleam.
I awake with ice upon my flesh,
And stars where sun should be.
Smell the air, thick as tears,
Alive with quiet glee.
Afford the morning one faint smile,
Head toward journey's end.
Knowing there I'll never be,
The road, always my friend.
