bestiary
i go away from my computer for about a day, and i come back and theres a buncha skyrim pages, does that mean can we start a bestiary now? (I plead LazynessEddie The Head 10:00, 2 October 2011 (UTC))
- You could probably start one if you want, there are a lot of pages being made right now on Skyrim. RIM 10:03, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
[Animal subdual and captivity: Can we ride them into battle? Is there a spell that will let us go to battle as our pets?]

"leaked" achievements
its not official so it may just be made up but: [1] (I plead LazynessEddie The Head 05:58, 4 October 2011 (UTC))
- I'm inclined to believe that list is accurate, given that they even have the graphics (on the linked page). Definite spoiler alert. 16 quest names are given; there are 15 daedric artifacts (so it does indeed look like all Oblivion's daedric princes are back); there's a quest fork between the Stormcloaks and the Imperial Legion; your bounty is specific to a hold, not constant through out Skyrim; there are a lot of skill books (at least 50); the Thieves Guild has fallen on tough times again... and more. rpeh •T•C•E• 06:16, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

(←) I think the information is as reliable as anything else we're using right now. Especially since it's coming from xbox360achievements.org -- not only is it a site I rely on constantly, but in addition their leaked achievements in the past have been accurate. I'd like to suggest, though, that we name the page Skyrim:Achievements (unlike the Oblivion counterpart) and generalize it so it documents all platforms -- I.e., PS3 trophies and Steam PC achievements. I'd also like to take some steps to improve our documentation of achievements (more cross-links, redirects, categories, etc.). It's probably easiest for me to just start setting things up instead of explaining -- but getting the rest of the setup done is another reason why I'd prefer to just do things in Skyrim instead of in sandboxes.
As for the icons, I don't see any reason to not use these icons. If colour ones become available later, we can just upload them on top of the non-colour versions, and they'll immediately be displayed, with much less work. In the meantime, we can start using them in a lot more places then just the achievements page. However, I think any copies of the icons should include links to the source website for now (as well as the esimage license), given that we're not getting them directly from Bethesda at this point. --NepheleTalk 14:57, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
- The achievements are fine - although if people are going to say things have been "confirmed", I'd appreciate a link when the only information seems to be explicitly that they haven't been confirmed. The icons... still not sure. rpeh •T•C•E• 15:01, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
-
- so will i make a Achievements page and add my sandboxs info to it? (I plead LazynessEddie The Head 15:03, 4 October 2011 (UTC))
-
-
- Just on the Daedric artifact thing, daedra shrines were confirmed a while ago by Pete Hines who said that you can also get special blessing from them, also the Stormcloaks have been confirmed as rebels opposed to the Imperial Legion for a while too.RIM 15:33, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

-
- Sorry, just to clarify my comments: I was only talking about whether the achievements should be documented on pages other than the main Skyrim:Skyrim page. I agree that they have not yet been confirmed, so any page mentioning them needs to contain the {{Pre-Release}} template. So I'd support Eddie's proposal to put his sandbox page at Achievements. --NepheleTalk 16:25, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

Game Informer's Media:Andrew Reiner has the game, and despite his NDA has his Skyrim 360 achievements online for the world to see at Microsoft's XBox Live website. This pretty much confirms both the achievements available and their associated icons, since he will be reviewing a finished version of the game: http://live.xbox.com/en-US/MyXbox/Profile?gamerTag=Reinak — Unsigned comment by 86.144.38.116 (talk) at 06:23 on 1 November 2011 (UTC)
"Dragonborn" Meaning
Out of curiosity, is there anything that states the meaning of "dragonborn" anywhere? The Septim lineage is dead, but I was curious could the "dragonborn" be a reference to the Skyrim PC being a descendent of the Septims in some way, is "dragonborn" simply a person gifted with dragons, or is there some other meaning of the word? Thank you, kindly. Sn0L3prd 05:46, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
- it is a person born with a dragons soul, Nothing to do with the septims. (I plead LazynessEddie The Head 05:53, 5 October 2011 (UTC))
-
- The Septims were a lineage of dragonborn, and thought to be the last dragonborn. But them comes Dovahkiin, a dragonborn, even when people thought there were no more of 'em... And yes, it means you were born with a soul of a dragon, thus you can speak their language. Ss4matador 22:25. 5 October 2011 (UTC)
-
-
- I believe that Eddie is correct. The Septims appear to have been called "Dragonborn" as a metaphor to their inheritence of the Amulet of Kings, which according to tthe book, "The Amulet of Kings", came of the blood of Akatosh. However, the Septims were not descendants of Akatosh, but rather the descendant of a usurper of sorts by the name of Tiber Septim, AKA Talos. Furthermore, the Septims are certainly not descendants of the Dragons of Akavir (the ones to be featured in Skyrim) and have never spoken their language. As much as I'd like to think that you get to play one of the Septims, it just doesn't make very much sense. It is an unfounded piece of speculation most likely created by someone who noticed that the Septims were called "dragonborn" in one or two books and maybe in some in-game dialogue.--Kalis AgeaYes? Dovahkiin children
Just wondering is it possible if you can ever have a child with the soul of a dragon?— Unsigned comment by 97.91.105.252 (talk) at 23:53 on October 5 2011
- If we knew something like that, it would most likely be on the article. That is interesting to think of, though. I suppose we'll find out on November 11.--Kalis AgeaYes? Contrib E-mail 00:01, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
- In an interview with Pete Hines, the reporter asked if the character "can get divorced after the children have grown up", Pete laughed and said no to both questions so it is unlikely.RIM 15:47, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
- Think of this: I'm going to be playing a Khajiit. What if I marry a Breton lass? What is that kid going to look like? I'm sure it was considered, but opening the possibility of having hybrid race children, and then having the possibility of hybrid adults adds a lot of uncertainty in design and multiplies the races they'd have to make, which is something that would take away a lot of focus on each existing race. So, simply not letting having children being apart of the game takes a lot less away from potential futures you can build in your mind than simply making it where you can have kids only if you marry within your race, and thus completely devalue interracial relationships. It's a bit tricky to say the least, and thus a lot simpler to just not include period. — Unsigned comment by Eximago (talk • contribs) at 21:56 on 7 October 2011 (GMT)

- It is very unlikely that the hero would be able to have children on his own, not because developers would not like to keep it as real as possible, but due to the game engine technical disadvantages and many problems it would create. Game would have to calculate and make them 'grow up', we would have to get older etc. with days which is very unlikely at this stage of our gaming technology... Same thing goes with the indestructible buildings and similar, it is not that they don't want you to be able to ruin whole city but because they put hours of work to create it plus lore freaks are minority, most of people don't care about the lore and the game world while playing games, imagine some idiot destroying whole cities, murdering everybody, having 100 children etc. I'm sorry if someone feels offended but let's face it, majority of players do stupid things in games... --Arkhon 22:37, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Curious question
I know that for those in the Australasian area of the world we will get the game at least an hour before a lot of other countries, my exact location being at the least 7hours ahead of the USA. I'm curious if it would be fine for those of us in that category to provide info/edit pages etc? I'm still new to editing on this wiki but I'd love to contribute more and figure if I can start things with more definite info early it might be a big help.--Dro'Bakha 06:27, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

New Gameinformer Article
Here is a new article mostly about the Dark Brotherhood and a group of warriors called the "Battle-Born" Fin Dova Feyn 03:22, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
Russian Skyrim Map
ElderScrolls.Net have scanned and uploaded a Russian map of Skyrim (which was handed out for free at a convention). It's the same one that's being packages with Skyrim pre-orders and the CE. It might be a good idea to add the city crests to the various city articles, and if we can get the map translated, it could be used to create some place pages in advance (although how exact the translations would be is debatable). We have permission from ESN to use it, and the original uploader has stamped it, so usage issues should be okay. Thoughts? --Legoless 16:19, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
- I think we should use the crests and if possible translate it. Although would Google translate it? Or would we need a actual Russian-speaker to do it for us? --Kiz ·•· Talk ·•· Contribs ·•· Mail ·•· 16:58, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
-
- Google Translate is usually pretty desperate, and I couldn't get the hang of its Russian keyboard. A speaker of the language would be much more preferable. --Legoless 17:13, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
-
-
-
- A large fraction of the names look like simple transliterations (just letter-by-letter conversion into the Russian alphabet) rather than translations. And some of the names that are translated are combinations of pretty simple words. An actual Russian speaker could definitely decipher it more quickly than I can, but I think most of it can be worked out even without someone who speaks Russian. --NepheleTalk 17:33, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

-
- Well, one of the people I asked did took a look at it. He doesn't speak Russian, but he gave it a shot. The only actual Russian speaker I know is still working on it.
-

-
- This is what OblivionDuruza had to say about it:
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- "Map has cities located in the same spots as other maps at (including crests - bold for the 5 coloured and enlarged names): Winterhold (possibly Three pine trees), Windhelm (A bear with a single v below), Riften (Crossed swords over layed on a single vertical stripe), Falkreath (Some kind of Elk), Markath Side (A Ram/Mountain Goat), Solitude (possibly a Wolf), Stonehill [not exact] (A three pronged swirl), Dawnstar (A star), Whiterun (A horse with a single horizontal line below)."
-
-
-
(←) Agreed, no need to rush it. The other person (Who actually speaks Russian) I asked said that she's on it. However, it might be better to just wait for the English map. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 18:20, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
- Actually, as I look at it more closely, nearly the entire map seems to be transliterated -- names like "Riverwood", "Dawnstar", and "Winterhold" are all just letter-for-letter conversions. The only words I've picked out so far that are translated are separate words such as "bridge" (as in Dragon Bridge), "Sea", "River", and "Lake". As for the unknown city in the middle, my best guess at transliterating it's name is "Morfal" -- translated or transliterated, there's no resemblance to "Stonehill".
- But even if it's transliterated, I think the map is best used to locate places whose English names we already know -- not to come up with new place names. Any other names we can make out are nearly certain to be spelled incorrectly in English -- silent letters, letters with multiple possible transliterations (e.g., "f" or "ph"), letters that are lost in the folds of the map. Even the original English-to-Russian conversion could contain errors. There are just too many uncertainties. --NepheleTalk 18:43, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
-
- Tromka Mupa is "Throat of World" ie the Throat of the world and Prbepbyg is Riverwood. The city in the middle, Baumpah, is Whiterun and directly across from it, Popukcmeg, is Granitehall. RIM 21:05, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
-
-
- My Russian speaking acquaintance got back to me. She redid the map in English. I don't think we should use it do to possible errors in the translation from both the developer's and the person I asked, but in case you're curious... --AKB Talk Cont Mail 00:32, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

-
- Argh! I forgot to point some things out! First off, thanks to Norroen Dyrd from the forums for doing this, you're awesome. She's unsure of the spelling of the hold, Hjalmark. She's also unsure of how to spell "Morfal", she offered alternative spellings spelling it as "Morphal" or "Morfall". Finally, "The Pale" should be, "Whiterun Hold". She wanted to be more lore accurate (I asked her to go with the literal translation, but my message got confused(At least, that's what I thought was what was the confusion was caused by, my reading comprehension skills have been quite poor lately)). Either way, I can't confirm it's accuracy myself as I know virtually nothing about the Russian language. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 01:15, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

- (edit conflict) A lot of those place names look pretty solid to me (you can't go wrong with something like the "Black River"). It's interesting to see the Pale Pass make a reappearance, as it already has quite a history. --Legoless 01:19, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Leaked Xbox 360 Game Manual
I was looking through a site that links the most up to date stories and came across this when I refreshed my page: [3] It appears to be legitimate and I'm sure it contains information that hasn't previously been released. Rebtex 02:10, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
- If it's a fake, it's an elaborate fake. However, the extreme poor quality of the images and the fact that it was most likely leaked against Bethesda Softwork's wishes make it useless as a reference. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 02:24, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
-
- All the info from it is true though.RIM 15:40, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
-
-
- It could still possibly be a fake, admittedly an extremely elaborate fake, but it still may be fake. I haven't seen any confirmation of this being legitimate. Assuming it is real though, it's still extremely poor quality, it's hard to make out a large amount of the info. As Bethesda probably isn't happy about one of their manual being leaked, it's probably better not to annoy them by hosting information only obtainable through an illicit source. The last time a source like this came out (Leaked Quakecon videos), the administrators shot down using them as sources. This situation is pretty identical to that one. However, if I remember correctly, Bethesda did end up releasing the Quakecon videos officially a little later. This might prompt them to release the manual (And not just photos of the pages taken from odd angles either). --AKB Talk Cont Mail 15:56, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

(←) What worries me about this discussion is the possible trend towards endlessly debating the accuracy of every new detail that comes out between now and November 11th. Posting links to new websites is useful, but discussing those links seems pointless. Every "fact" we see is unconfirmed pre-release information; the only way to know for sure whether the fact is true is to wait until November 11th. No amount of discussion is possibly going to change that situation.
Furthermore, the guidelines for using every new piece of the information are basically the same: compare the information with what's been said elsewhere, compare the information with past games, and then use common sense to decide whether the new information is useful.
Basically, most of this discussion just boils down to speculation and isn't productive, so could any similar future discussions be carried out on the forums or somewhere else that's more appropriate? --NepheleTalk 19:59, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

A shout that makes your character temporarily invisible, even from long falls. While it's been mentioned before, a shout will allow you to call a dragon to fight with you. It was confirmed that this dragon will be an ally you find later in the main quest. Todd also said that there are "about" six types of dragon, and there will be specific individual dragons with names, though this isn't much of surprise.
Aside from that, it also showed some nice footage of all the mentioned shouts, and a lot of never before stuff, like spriggans and a blackish colored troll that seems to be a different type than the white troll in the demo, though it could be something like the color variations seen in the creatures in The Shivering Isles. Live action pictures
On the main page there is mention of pictures from The Elder Scrolls facebook page being live action Skyrim pictures. I remember seeing a video for a live action fan-made clip on the Bethesda blog and believe they come from that not possible TV show/movie. I would have posted to the Main Page discussion section but its protected and I can't post there.--Dro'Bakha 14:17, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
- Do you mean this video? I can't see any similar shots to the three images. --Legoless 15:14, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
-
- Definitely not fan material, considering the Bethesda copyright on the images. Not to mention that the shots show perfect costumes, as if Bethesda had contracted someone like Weta Workshop to make props. These are probably teaser shots from a promotional feature; possibly a release-day short film meant as a final marketing push coinciding with release. Live action short films are growing increasingly popular for triple-A game titles, I wouldn't be surprised if Bethesda had decided to invest in one of their own. — Unsigned comment by 71.63.163.149 (talk) at 20:16 on 23 October 2011 (GMT)

- Even with all of that, they could still be fan made. Just look at Fallout: Nuka Break. Its a fan made series/movie that has the creators being co-interviewed with Obsidian. And all the fan made costumes used in said series look as if they were professionally created. So it can likely be either a promotional gimmick or a fan-made series/movie.--Dro'Bakha 13:10, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Skyrim Intro Leaked
The first twenty minutes or so of the game has been leaked, and is currently circulating the internet (unless it's just a really, really, detailed hoax of course). A lot of new information is available can be taken from it, such as the fact that Ulfric Stormcloak is alongside you as a prisoner at the start of the game. If anyone is curious, it took me roughly twenty seconds to find it. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 13:54, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
- would you mind posting a link of the intro please? — Unsigned comment by Lolasaurous (talk • contribs) at 17:11 on 30 October 2011 (UTC)
-
- Yes,I do mind. I'm not going to. As I said, this seems to be a genuine, unintended leak. Videos of it stand to be taken down almost instantly. It took me only a few seconds of searching likely places for it to come up, you can do the same if you're interested. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 17:11, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

(←) I don't think it's a good idea for users to be posting any information obtained from the leaked footage even if links to the actual footage are not included, since Bethesda themselves are firmly against people even openly discussing the footage (or elements of it) on the official forums. The game will be out next week, it's best to wait until then and take all details from the released product. — Unsigned comment by 86.144.38.116 (talk) at 06:07 on 1 November 2011 (UTC)
- The cat's out of the bag. The leak is no secret, every gaming website has covered this story already. Doesn't matter whether we discuss it or not. Noobzone1 17:53, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
-
- If every other gaming website is covering the story there's no need for us to do so.
- Look, Bethesda have been very generous with what they let us host. We have all the in-game books, two editions of the Pocket Guide to the Empire and loads more data that they could get taken down instantly if they wanted to. In this case, they took down the first YouTube copies of that video within minutes of the release, so it's pretty clear they're pissed at this leak. Unless other admins disagree, I'm simply not going to allow links to that video here because at worst it could have negative consequences for the site, and at best it's downright impolite given how nice Bethesda have been to us in the past. rpeh •T•C•E• 18:06, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
-
-
- We can discuss the video (on the forums, the wiki's not the place for that), just not link to it. Considering the quality of the video (not perfect, but nowhere close to bad), and the value of the information contained in the video (the entire opening sequence), I don't think we should just ignore this. However, I think we've already covered pretty much everything of value from the video already. There is no reason to link to it (and not just because it is sure to be taken down in seconds), as most of the important information is already on the wiki. So, unless we wish to remove all information related to the video on the wiki (several articles, a few edits to existing articles) as a courtesy to Bethesda, I don't think we need to do anything else. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 18:12, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Fighting Against Tamriel?
A current promotion on Kongregate(a flash game website) has a interesting little tidbit.
"The Dragonborn must pass several tests of mettle before bringing the Empire of Tamriel to justice. Born with the Voice, you must harness the power of the dragons, and master all the elements of combat."
"bringing the Empire of Tamriel to justice"? Is this a plot point that we've somehow missed?

- I don't think it's anything to do with the game itself - it's just some kind of money making competition on that site itself. rpeh •T•C•E• 17:42, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

- It does seem to be a competition, but regarding the game: it is known that you can fight against the old Cyrodilic Empire, but we also know it is possible to fight with the empire to crush the rebellion in Skyrim. I believe you have to chose one or the other though. --Kiz ·•· Talk ·•· Contribs ·•· Mail ·•· 17:43, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

Wordwall in the demo
I've successfully transcribed the wordwall in the demo and was wondering where, if anywhere, it has a place on the wiki.
QETHSEGOL VAHRUKIV |
QETHSEGOL VAHRUKIV
KENDOV SE VUD RONA-
SILLE HORIIR PINDAAR SE SOVNGARDE
NAAL QO
One symbol on the wall is as of yet unknown. The last symbol on the second line in RONA- is the symbol for W in mirror image. Can provide screenshot if needed.
It is also somewhat irregular, as instead of using the symbol for 'ah', 'aa' or 'ii', it shows 'AH', 'AA' or "II' respectively. We'll see whether this will be changed by the time the game comes out or not. --Ijiero 14:04, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Dragonborn
Just to sort of preemptively quash another discussion, here's what I've gathered over the various interviews, articles, etc. I'm at work, so don't have time to source these claims, but here's how it goes:
Those who are "dragonborn" are born with the soul of a dragon, and the ability to use dragon shouts if they are taught. The Septims were dragonborn, but they were not the only lineage that was. This also explains why the emperors that were unrelated to Tiber Septim were still able to light the dragonfires. Being a Septim means you are dragonborn, but being dragonborn does not necessarily mean you are a Septim. By the time of Skyrim, the dragonborn were thought to no longer exist, until it was learned that the player character was dragonborn. So, maybe that clears it up for some people. --72.151.117.101 18:24, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, thanks, we know. What's your point? ~ Dwarfmp 19:07, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
-
- His point was that the character is not necessarily related to the the Septims, a lot of people were confused about how the Septims were dragonborn but not actually born with the soul of a dragon.RIM 20:02, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
