Forgotten Vale Cave

Forgotten Vale Cave is a small cave in the Forgotten Vale containing chaurus and one of the rare shellbugs. It contains only one zone, Forgotten Vale Cave.

Walkthrough

Exterior

The exterior of this cave is the Forgotten Vale. The entrance is in the first section of the vale along the east wall of the valley, and is guarded by a Falmer. A gleamblossom plant is to the left of the entrance.

Main chamber

The entrance leads into a passage with bone chimes hanging from the ceiling. A gated pen to the north contains a chaurus, a chaurus hunter, two unoccupied chaurus cocoons, seven chaurus egg sacs, and five glowing mushrooms on the walls. The path splits to the west, with the left side rising along a ledge to a rope release that opens a concealed door in the northwest wall of the main chamber, and the right side descending past a Falmer chest to the floor of the chamber. The chamber features six Falmer hives and five cocoons, but only one of each is occupied by a chaurus hunter.

The passage behind the concealed door on the northwest ledge of the chamber descends into another chamber containing another rope release that operates the door, a few glowing mushrooms, an unoccupied cocoon, and one of the rare shellbugs. In order to obtain their chitin, these creatures must be mined with a pickaxe; the material cannot be obtained through killing the creatures by conventional means. Shellbugs are also not detected by the Detect Life spell.

Bugs

• You may be unable to mine the shellbug after it respawns. Leaving and reentering the cave will enable the shellbug, allowing you to mine it normally.
  • The Unofficial Skyrim Patch, version 1.3.0, fixes this bug.
