Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
The Sickness from the Ale[edit]
While asking about rumors in Dragonstar, you may hear that the patrons of Ildgar's Alehouse keep falling ill. To begin your investigation, go to the alehouse and talk to Friga Dragon-Singer, who will direct you to talk to Ildgar Fire-Tongue.
The Alehouse Investigation[edit]
Ildgar suspects that the illness is a plot by the Sogat Dur-Gada, because the sickness starts after he offered a bounty of ale for the head of a Sogat plotter, and asks you to take a look around and talk to the patrons in the Alehouse. From there, there are several things you can do:
- Talk to Lovir Raven-Call upstairs, who will tell you that while he doesn't know about any tampering, there have been a couple of Redguards in the Alehouse recently, with Kyra, a gardener who lives near the Census and Excise Office, being one of them.
- Open the trapdoor behind Ildgar Fire-Tongue to access the alehouse's cellar and interact with the Barrel of Ale there to reveal that the barrel seems to have leaked, though there are no visible damage from the front side of the barrels. If you report this to Ildgar, he will tell you to look around the alehouse, inside and out.
- Head to the backyard of the alehouse and interact with the rope, which will lead you to the Collapsed Cellar. Head through the tunnel and interact with the Loose Bricks to get an info that the bricks there have been worked loose and sticky with ale, and that a bottle labeled "weed-killer" lies nearby. It seems someone has dug into the collapsed cellar behind the alehouse and tampered with the ale from there. Report this to Ildgar, who will tell you that he gave Kyra permission to clear the rubble in the backyard to start a garden.
Based on your investigation so far, looks like Kyra might be the suspect behind the tampering. It's time to confront her with your findings.
Confronting Kyra[edit]
Kyra can be found in her Herbarium, just before the gate to Dragonstar West. Talk to her about the findings you've found. She admits that she dug the yard behind the alehouse for cultivation after getting Ildgar's permission, but claims that she stopped once she realised she was digging above the collapsed cellar.
In the Herbarium, you can find a Bottle of Weed-Killer on top of a table. If you confront her with it, she will deny poisoning the ale, claiming she have no love for the Sogat dur-Gada. She then reveals that she in fact may be getting framed by the Dur-Gada, with Razhab, a traveling alchemist, being a possible agent of it. She will also reveal that the bottle of Weed-Killer you found earlier was offered to Kyra for free by Razhab.
Confronting Razhab[edit]
Razhab can be found peddling his potions and ingredients beside the Shadowkey Tavern. If you followed Kyra's suggestion and accused him of being the poisoner, he will think that she's just trying to shift the blame to "a poor traveler with no one to vouch for him", and suggests that you report her to Ildgar right away.
Kyra also mentioned earlier that Razhab is staying in the Shadowkey Tavern, so if Razhab's response earlier seems suspicious to you, you should investigate his room, which is the locked (40) room to the left at the top floor of the tavern. Look under the bed, next to the sack to find an incriminating note.
Return to him with the note you found, and he will offer you money in exchange for telling Ildgar that Kyra was the poisoner. If you accept, he will give you all the gold he have on him, and will be gone once you accused Kyra as the poisoner. If you refuse however, Razhab will turn hostile. You can still accuse Razhab as being the poisoner even after you accept his proposition, but you will not be able to accuse Kyra after he turns hostile upon refusing.
Accuse the Poisoner[edit]
At any point after you find the Bottle of Weed-Killer, you can return to Ildgar to accuse the poisoner.
- You can accuse Ildgar as the poisoner, who will reprimand you for being ridiculous. This does not end the quest, and will just result in a 5 point disposition loss.
- If you find the Bottle of Weed-Killer at Kyra's Herbarium, you can accuse Kyra as the poisoner. Ildgar will inform the guards about it, and thanks you for your help.
- If you find the incriminating note in Razhab's room in Shadowkey Tavern, you can report that Razhab is the poisoner. Ildgar will inform the guards about it, and thanks you for your help.
After you accuse either Kyra or Razhab as the poisoner, you can then find the accused in Castle Dragonstar's dungeon. If you accuse Razhab, when you visit him in the dungeon, he will swear that the Dur-Gada will get vengeance for it, which confirms that he is, in fact, an agent of the Sogat dur-Gada.
Notes[edit]
- The gold you earn from this quest depends on when you accused the poisoner to Ildgar:
- If you accused the poisoner after you found the Bottle of Weed-Killer at Kyra's Herbarium, you will receive 50 gold,
- If you accused the poisoner after you found the note in Razhab's room, you will receive 80 gold.
- After you accuse Kyra as the poisoner, Razhab will no longer be found besides Shadowkey tavern.
- The gold given to you by Razhab is the gold that can be found on his body when looted, and is separate from his merchant gold. He will, however, have all the items he is peddling on his body when looted.

Index | Finishes Quest | Journal Entry |
10 | Patrons of Ildgar's Alehouse in Dragonstar East have been getting sick from the ale. Ildgar Fire-Tongue suspects a plot by the Sogat Dur-Gada, and has asked me to uncover the source of this illness. He suggested I start by looking around and talking to his clientele.
14 | Kyra is dead, but that doesn't rule her out as the poisoner.
16 | Razhab is dead, but that doesn't rule him out as the poisoner.
20 | After talking to Ildgar's patrons, I learned that two Redguards visited the alehouse recently. If this is a Sogat Dur-Gada plot, these could well be the culprits. One of them, Kyra, is a gardener near the Census and Excise Office.
25 | In the basement of Ildgar's alehouse I found a barrel that seemed to have leaked, though I could see no damage from the front.
30 | I have discovered a hole in the yard behind Ildgar's alehouse that seems to lead into the cellar of a collapsed house. It looks as though the hole was made a while ago and had been disguised with rubble -- perhaps whoever recently uncovered it was scared off before they could cover it again.
35 | Someone has dug into the collapsed cellar behind Ildgar's alehouse and tampered with the ale from there. A bottle of weed-killer was lying nearby and is no doubt the source of the poison. Ildgar may know more about who's been digging in the yard.
40 | Ildgar told me that he gave permission to a Redguard gardener, Kyra, to start digging in the yard behind the alehouse. She may be able to tell me more, or have some proof of involvement amongst her possessions.
45 | I confronted Kyra about digging in the yard behind the alehouse. She admitted to doing so, but claims she stopped once she realised it was above a collapsed cellar. This does not give me enough evidence for an accusation.
50 | I have found a bottle of weed-killer in Kyra's possession that matches the one found in the collapsed cellar. This is enough evidence to report her to Ildgar, though perhaps she may tell me more if accused to her face.
60 | After I accused Kyra of being a poisoner for the Sogat Dur-Gada, she claimed that she had no love for the Dur-Gada and was in fact being framed by Razhab, a traveling alchemist. Perhaps I can learn more about his intentions.
65 | Following Kyra's suggestion, I have accused Razhab of being the poisoner. He was unimpressed and instead suggested that Kyra is trying to shift her guilt onto him. However, he seemed especially keen for me to report Kyra as the poisoner.
70 | I found evidence in Razhab's room that strongly suggests he is a Sogat Dur-Gada agent. This is enough evidence to report him to Ildgar, though perhaps he may tell me more if accused to his face.
80 | I showed Razhab the proof of his involvement with the Sogat Dur-Gada, and he quickly changed his tune. He gave me a sum of money to tell Ildgar that Kyra was the culprit, and promises to leave town as soon as I do.
90 | I told Razhab that I wouldn't frame Kyra for the ale tampering, and he attacked me. I now know that he is the poisoner.
100 | I told Ildgar that Kyra was the poisoner. He thanked me and promised to alert the guards.
110 | I told Ildgar that Razhab was the poisoner. He thanked me and promised to alert the guards.
120 | Ildgar is dead. The poisoner has escaped justice.
130 | I told Ildgar that Razhab was the poisoner, and that he'd attacked me when I threatened to reveal him. Ildgar thanked me and promised to alert the guards. |
