The Ravaged Village[edit]
You will find him outside the walls of the village. Your dialogue will differ slightly whether you start the quest from him or Hooks-Fish at Tal'Deic Fortress.
Approaching him:
- "Khajiiti defilers have ruined us."
If you start the quest directly from him, He warns you that his village was attacked by pirates:
- "There is no hospitality here, stranger. Our village was attacked!"
- Who attacked you?
- "Khajiiti pirates! They're raiding our village—taking slaves and supplies. I gathered our survivors here, but I won't leave without Leel-Vata.
Cursed cats! And where were the Dark Elves? Their feet is supposed to guard the coast." - Who is Leel-Vata?
- "My mate and our spiritual leader. She was in the village when the pirates attacked.
I'm just an old saltrice farmer, outsider. I beg you! Find her and bring her back." - I'll find Leel-Vata.
If you started the quest through Hooks-Fish: I ran into Hooks-Fish on the road. What happened here?
- "Khajiiti pirates! They're raiding our village—taking slaves and supplies. We couldn't stop them. They're merciless. Just a few of us made it to the gate.
It's not safe for my people here, but I won't leave without Leel-Vata." - Who is Leel-Vata?
- "My mate and our spiritual leader. She was in the village when the pirates attacked.
I'm just an old saltrice farmer, outsider. I beg you! Find her and bring her back." - I'll find Leel-Vata.
You can then ask him more about what happened.
- "Leel-Vata is a skilled mage, but she is just one Saxhleel.
Please, find her and bring her back safely." - You said Leel was your spiritual leader. What do you mean?
- "She guides us to live in peace and simplicity. She is the sun and rain that nourishes our small group.
We came here to follow her teachings, to escape the violence of the world and live uncomplicated lives." - So you won't fight the pirates?
- "We try to follow the pure stream, but that path isn't always easy. Instinct tells us to form a fist and strike, especially when the enemy is upon us.
But we are not warriors. We have no weapons or armor. And we are afraid."
If you are a non-argonian, you can ask:
- What exactly is a Saxhleel?
- "We are the Saxhleel. It's what we call ourselves in our native Jel tongue. Only the smoothskins call us Argonians.
We lived here peacefully, tending our fields. Until the pirates set upon us."
If you return to him after speaking with his partner, he'll say:
- "She's not with you?
Muck water! She's gone off to do something brave, hasn't she?"
After gathering the sacred stones and the hist branch and before speaking to Leel, he will say:
- "You're alone…You don't need to tell me. She's off doing something foolish, of course."
The Saving of Silent Mire[edit]
Once you've started the quest, he'll tell you:
- "Leel-Vata is my second sun. She gives me light and warmth in a world that is all too often cold and grim.
Please, see her back to me safely."
After killing Seeks-the-Night, return to Vara to inform him that the traitor has been dealt with:
- "You have returned. Is he ...?"
- It's done. Seeks-the-Night is dead.
- "The traitor is dead, but that brings me no joy. I can only hope that Silent Mire will be left in peace once more.
I'll return the branch to Leel-Vata. Take this, friend. It's not much, but it's what we can spare."
After the quest:
- "You will be remembered in this village for all you have done."
