Quest-Related Events[edit]
Isobel Veloise will have received a letter from her friend Aurelia Jourvel who was sightseeing in Stros M'kai. Aurelia was recently robbed of several of her personal items, including a family signet ring that Isobel had once given her. However, when you arrive in Port Hunding Aurelia will inform you that her travelling companion Kiv Lindres was the one to have robbed her. After some searching, you will find out Kiv hopped aboard a ship to Seyda Neen.
When you arrive in Seyda Neen, you and Isobel will need to search the town. You will find Galedra outside the Saucy Nix. She will comment:
- Galedra Athram: "You're not a local, are ya? I can tell, you're not covered in swamp moss."
You can ask her about Kiv:
- "Want some food or drink? Someone in the inn can get it for you.
Be warned, the cook is terrible. I should know, I used to work there." - Actually we're looking for a guy named Kiv Lindres. You know him?
- "Oh yeah, I know Kiv. Men like him, they're a lot of fun … until they drag you into some scheme of theirs and you lose your job.
Slimy fetcher has already moved on. What did he do now?" - He took something valuable from a friend.
- "Not shocking, flah. He's a schemer. Left some stuff behind in the tavern and left in a flash.
I vouched for him, so I lost my job. Feel free to look through his pack. I think he was headed for Wayrest." - Thanks.
Before you head inside the Saucy Nix to look for clues, you can ask Galedra what else she knows about Kiv:
- "Oof. I'm gonna have to lay off the shein.
You know that weird taste at the back of your throat when the shein goes bad? I've got that. Yech." - Can you tell us any more about Kiv?
- "He's a thief, of course, and a charmer. That's how he gets you. I first met him in Ebonheart. I had nothing valuable, so I wasn't a mark.
I only work in places like this to pay for my alchemy studies." - How did you lose your job?
- "He showed back up in town flashing some merchant house signet ring. He said he'd gone straight. Spent big, charging everything to the house.
Chow-Chow, the cook, knew something was fishy and got the owner involved. Kiv bolted, and I got fired." - What will you do now?
- "What I should do is move on, find another job, continue my studies. But part of me wouldn't mind seeing Kiv get some payback.
Maybe I'll take a page from your book, serjo. Track him down in Wayrest and pay him back." - How do you know so much about what he does?
- "I'd known him for a while, casual, before we started up our thing. He treats a person nice when he just wants to have fun. Got a good sense of him.
But live and learn and Dumac take my pride, I suppose. I'll be fine. Lesson learned." - Thanks, Galedra.
When you exit the conversation:
- Galedra Athram: "I've been making some experimental alchemical mixtures and I'd love to try them out on Kiv."
Inside the tavern, you will find a letter from Julles Laurdon, another possible victim of Kiv who is in Wayrest. When you leave, Galedra will call out to you:
- Galedra Athram: "Don't be surprised if you see me in Wayrest. That fetcher deserves some payback."
Talking with Galedra again before you leave:
- "I don't have a potion or tonic that can help me find my common sense. I'm going to be mad at myself for a long time over falling for his … style.
I do have some things that could make Kiv Lindres feel pretty uncomfortable for a while though."
In Wayrest you will meet Julles outside the Temple of the Divines, after you learn of his own experience with Kiv, Galedra will show up:
- Galedra Athram: "Are you Julles? I can tell by your face that fetcher left you in the lurch."
- Isobel Veloise: "This is just like a romance novel I read once."
- Julles Laurdon: "Oh no. You poor thing! That dastardly man, how could he?"
- Galedra Athram: "I decided these two have the right idea. You want to help track him down? I plan to make sure he remembers me."
- Julles Laurdon: "By the Eight you're right. Self-pity serves no one. Young lady, Kiv has gone to Belkarth. Let's go."
Before you speak with Isobel:
- "Hey again. Bet you thought I was kidding about following you."
Talking with Galedra before you leave:
- "Guess we'll see you in Belkarth. Don't worry, we'll get that fetcher. He's not going to get away this time."
Once you arrive in Belkarth, you can find Engelreth Goldleaf in the inn upstairs. But when you arrive, Galedra and Julles are already talking to him:
- Isobel Veloise: "Looks like our, uh. Friends are already here."
- Galedra Athram: "Goldleaf, you have to listen. That fetcher will just cut and run, the same as he did to us."
- Engelreth Goldleaf: "Oof, you're giving me a headache. And what's this, more of you? This is not how I figured today would go."
- Isobel Veloise: "Let's talk to Goldleaf. See what he knows."
- Julles Laurdon: "She's not lying. He broke my heart! Listen to the young woman."
Speaking with Galedra, she is determined to stop Kiv:
- "We're not gonna let Kiv hurt another soul."
After speaking with Engelreth, he will tell you where he was going to meet Kiv. You and Isobel will go there in his stead, Galedra will have a request before you go:
- "Don't … yeah, don't kill him. Can't get revenge on him if he's dead."
You will find Kiv Lindres in the basement, and the people he was meeting with will run away. Kiv will then attack you, but soon surrenders. Talking with him, he will make a deal; the ring's location for his life. You then reveal his "friends" also want a word with him:
- Kiv Landres: "Wait. What friends?"
- Galedra Athram: "Hello you fetching fetcher. You cost me my job."
- Julles Laurdon: "I feel we've come up with punishment that fit his crimes. And we'd like you to choose. Please and thank you."
Talking with them both, the pair have different ideas. Julles wants to send him to a remote convent, while Galedra has something more alchemical in mind:
- "That fetching … gah. Kiv will just seduce a guard and slip out of town if we turn him in.
I have a better idea." - How do you think he should be punished?
- "Well, I had to stop studying alchemy because I lost my job. What better way to punish him than to try out one of my concoctions?
It's a transformative admixture that … should turn him into a skeever for a few days." - Should?
- "I'm sure I did the measurements right. It'll last for a week at most. Maybe a month.
Look, it's a bit experimental but my instructor was really pleased. And best of all, it's applied to the skin. So it has more uses than a drinkable concoction." - That sounds amazing.
- Let me think about it. (Ends Conversation)
If you go with Galedra's idea, she will approach Kiv with her concoction:
- Galedra Athram: "This won't hurt a bit, Kiv."
- Kiv Landres: "Get away, you witch!"
- <Galedra pours the bottle on him. There is a flash of yellow light and Kiv is transformed into a spider.>
- Galedra Athram: "Damn. Thought it would be a skeever. Gotta remember for next time, go easy on the spidersilk."
Speaking with Galedra afterwards:
- "I had a feeling that mixture was off. Still, a spider's not bad right?
He'll remain a spider for quite a while. More than long enough for Julles and I to decide where to release him."
If you decide to go with Julles idea, Galedra will still assist:
- Julles Laurdon: "Kiv, I am taking you on a journey. Time spent in contemplation and service among the Brothers of the Bond will make you … a better person."
- Kiv Landres: "Hey wait, no. I'm not going to any monastery."
- Galedra Athram: "Nighty-night, Kiv."
- <Kiv falls unconscious.>
- Julles Laurdon: "Thank you, Galedra. By the time that wears off, we'll be halfway to the monastery."
Speaking with Galedra afterwards:
- "I was hoping to try my new concoction. Still, I love this plan.
Kiv forced to live with a group of celibate, contemplative monks? He will hate that. Hah!"
