Nendaer the Ironbark was a Bosmer warrior most well-known for being the founder of the Vinedusk Rangers, an elite order of Bosmer rangers and scouts that base themselves in Vinedusk Village. Unlike the rest of the Bosmer, the Vinedusk Rangers have no qualms about burning their tree settlements and will grow a new one where ever they went.[1] When they move to a new location, they give Nendaer a new resting place, usually somewhere in the area.[2]

Vinedusk Rangers trace their origins to the Vinedusk Tribe, who often battled the Dakarn clan of Khajiit in the later days of the Second Empire. When the Vinedusk bandits overstepped by raiding Arenthia and the Dakarn tried to control organized crime in Dune and the Thizzrini Arena, respectable citizens across Reaper's March funded militias and mercenaries to sweep the hills. With the two factions' brigandry days gone, commerce once again flourished in the region.[3] Nendaer the Ironbark reformed the Vinedusk Tribe into the irregular unit, the Vinedusk Rangers.[1][3]

In time, Nendaer passed away and became revered by future Vinedusk rangers.[1] Whenever Vinedusk Village is destroyed and a new one is grown, Nendaer's tomb is also moved to a nearby location.[2] In the mid-Second Era, Vinedusk Village was in western Reaper's March, and Nendaer's Tomb occupied a flooded Ayleid ruin west-northwest of the Falinesti Autumn Site.[4] In 2E 582, the West Weald Legion invaded Reaper's March, with its strongest force, the Vlastarus Cohort attacking Vinedusk Village. Unknown to them, they built their camp over Nendaer's tomb. Captain Odreth enlisted help from an adventurer to defeat the legion and root them out of the ruins.[5]

Nendaer's epithet, "the Ironbark" can indicate something about him as a person or his achievements in life. These names are given by the clan, a wise leader, seasoned warrior, or great storyteller, and are never chosen by yourself. Bosmer nicknames are given out of practicality to identify them since they do not typically have surnames. Bynames are marks of renown, given to someone for a great deed or special talent.[6]
