Mathoc the Immortal[1]

Mathoc Risor, also known Mathoc the Immortal was a powerful Breton warrior rumored to be immortal.[1]

History[edit]

Little is known of Mathoc's past. He was an imposing and towering, shield-bearing warrior. Even in his later years, Mathoc Risor instilled fear in all who encountered him. No one ever questioned why Mathoc constantly sought out battles; they were simply too afraid. His face was rugged and scarred. According to some he never uttered a word, yet others recounted stories of the fearsome warriors and creatures he'd slain. When he was out of earshot, they shared darker rumors. They claimed that the spirits of his victims sustained him, and that as long as he continued to fight, he would never die, earning him the moniker "the Immortal".[1]

He had fought in many battles and endured numerous injuries. A Dwarven automaton had crushed his throat, stealing his ability to speak. His teeth had been clenched ever since a giant shattered his jaw, and on that same day, he had broken his elbow, which never healed correctly. For forty-one years, he had been unable to straighten his arm. His fists had remained clenched like boulders ever since a Bosmeri archer had filled his back with arrows. A healer explained it was a reaction to the poison in the arrows, and that there was nothing to be done. Some stories claim that Mathoc had no choice but to keep fighting. It wasn't because the spirits of his slain enemies made him stronger, but because seeing others suffer sometimes offered a momentary escape from his own pain. He fought in the hope that, one day, someone or something might finally defeat him.[1]
