Foyada Bani-Dad

Foyada Bani-Dad is one of the several foyadas of Vvardenfell, the island district of Morrowind. The volcanic ravines (or "fire-rivers") are valleys formed by lava flows from Red Mountain, functioning as drainage basins for lava when the volcano is active, or alternatively forming pathways to travel on when dormant and devoid of lava.[1][2][3]

The foyada starts at the caldera of Red Mountain and travels northwest through the Ashlands to the Sea of Ghosts, where the ravine's seamouth is marked by a derelict shipwreck. This headland marks the coastal divide between the West Gash and the north Ashlands.[4][5] Bani-Dad appears to be one of the largest foyadas on the island, second only to Mamaea.[6]

Geography[edit]

There are many locations found inside Foyada Bani-Dad, including Ularradallaku, Vemynal, and the Charma's Breath entrance to Kogoruhn found close to its source near Red Mountain, Shishi and Bthungthumz found in the middle,[7][8][9] and finally Druscashti and Sha-Adnius found at the end near the seamouth. Many caves are found around the foyada, with notable nearby locations including the Urshilaku Camp traditionally set up in a low hollow near the seamouth,[4][10] Ashurnabitashpi Shrine[4] and Falasmaryon to the east,[11] and Khuul and Maar Gan to the west.[12][13] Ald'ruhn and Endusal are found between the Foyada Mamaea and Bani-Dad.[14]

A foyada surrounding Falasmaryon serves as a tributary of Bani-Dad.[15] Lava from Bani-Dad appears to flow downwards into the Forgotten Wastes as well.[16] Foyada Bani-Dad and its tributaries were filled with lava at the time of the Planemeld and Imperial Simulacrum.[17] The foyada had dried up by the time of the Blight in 3E 427, and the Ghostgate went through it.

Notes[edit]

  • Early concepts show that much of Foyada Bani-Dad was planned to be filled with active lava.[18]
