Sellus Prelius

Sellus Prelius, an Imperial citizen, is a retired legionnaire, father to Lassinia Iron-Heart and grandfather to Ellina Iron-Heart. During the related quest, you will be able to come to him with news about his son-in-law Harran's betrayal and he will reward you for keeping the knowledge from the rest of his family.

After waking up at 8am, Sellus eats breakfast before heading over to Castle Bruma at 9am. He spends the next three hours at court, before making his way to the Cathedral of St. Martin for two hours of prayers. Between 2pm and 8pm, he will be found browsing the market stalls, before visiting the Jerall View Inn's bathhouse for the next two hours. At 10pm, he heads upstairs for some food and drink, before returning home at midnight and heading to bed.

The only exceptions to this schedule are on Sundas, when the pious Sellus can be found in the cathedral from 12pm to 8pm, and during Service Rewarded, when he will be waiting in the throne room alongside his fellow nobles to acclaim you Friend to Bruma.

He wears Colovian fine clothes and fine boots and is armed with a steel war axe. He also carries the key to his house and a random selection of gold, lockpicks, rings, food and drink.

Rumors

If you meet his granddaughter Ellina running around town, she will tell you about her missing father, Sellus's son-in-law Harran. She will also give you a bit of background on Sellus while hinting at some tensions between father and daughter:

Where's your grandfather?

"At home, I think. We all live in the big house across from the wizards."

What is his name?

"Sellus Prelius. Mommy says it's a strong Imperial name but I like my name better. It means I have a strong heart. Mommy must like it better too because she uses it even though it makes grandpa mad."

Dialogue

If you ask him about his son-in-law's whereabouts his answers betray his disdain of the man:

Do you know where Harran is?

"Harran? That oaf... oh, did Lassinia send you my way? Forget I said that. No, I haven't heard from him in months. Not since he was called to arms."

You don't seem to like Harran very much.

"It's that obvious, is it? Well, I don't hate the boy. He's a good husband to Lassinia and a good father to Ellina, but if I had a son like that I'd ask the Divines what I had done wrong."

Why don't you like him?

"You might not understand why, but every soldier of the Legion takes an oath."

Depending on whether you are yourself a member or not, he continues:

"You know the oath we all take."

"Upon my honor I do swear undying loyalty to the Emperor, Titus Mede II and unwavering obedience to the officers of his great Empire. May those above judge me, and those below take me, if I fail in my duty. Long live the Emperor! Long live the Empire!"

Either way, he will conclude with:

"Harran said those words but I could tell he never meant them. He holds Skyrim and his Nord heritage closer to his heart than he ever held the Empire."

Quest-Related Dialogue

Once you've found Harran's body and proof of his betrayal, you can ask Sellus on the best course of action. While he initially wants to keep the truth from the family, you can convince him otherwise, provided you pass an Easy Speech check:

I found a journal with Harran's body. He joined the Stormcloaks.

"I always thought he was a fool but never a traitor. I can't believe it. Neither Lassinia nor Ellina can know about this. If you give me the journal, I'll burn it. I'll tell her that you said he died a Legion hero."

Here.

"Thank you, stranger. You've done the right thing."

I don't think that's right.

"You don't think that's right? Do you want Ellina to go through life knowing her father was a traitor?"

I'm sorry, but I still think Lassinia deserves the truth.

"I know I can't shield my daughter from the world her whole life. Do what you will."

She deserves to know the truth. (Persuade)

"The truth is that her father sold out his country and his family."

"Maybe you're right. Ellina is a smart girl. I can't keep her shielded from the world her whole life. I tried that with Lassinia and I ended up with a Stormcloak for a son-in-law. Fine, give Lassinia the journal. I appreciate what you've done. Take this gold as my thanks."

Bugs

• When visiting the Jerall View bathhouse, Sellus will actually bathe with his clothes still on, as he does not have the required script to remove them. ^?
