Cerendil is a High Elf Thalmor wizard living in Bruma. After he recently visited the disreputable tavern The Restful Watchman, Cerendil was left aghast at the depravity he witnessed and has brought forth charges against the inn in order to have it shut down.
Since his horrible experience at the Watchman, Cerendil spends most of his day pacing around Bruma in outrage, from midnight to 3pm. At this point, he heads over to the Jerall View Inn for some food and drink. Once the related quest is complete, he will disappear from the game.
He wears adept robes of Restoration and mage's boots, and also carries a random selection of gold, lockpicks, gems, jewelry, food and drink. As well as being armed with an Elven mace of winnowing, he is able to cast the spells Fireball and Lightning Bolt.

Dialogue[edit]
When bumping into him, he will exclaim:
- "Damnable tavern! Damnable owner! How dare he allow that lizard to engage in such a salacious display? Scandalous!"
- What's your problem with the Restful Watchman?
- "It's a dingy squat filled with criminals, rats and lice. The amount of underhanded deals and crooked business that goes on there... it beggars belief. I want its proprietor to land in hot water with our dear guard captain. He deserves it, no? I want its proprietor to land in hot water with our dear guard captain. He deserves it, no? Say, would you help me with that?"
- Why, exactly, should I help you?
- "You should help me because the tavern is filled with criminals. They deal with bandits, they steal, they rob. Surely it's only right that they face justice for what they do?"
- Not my thing, sorry.
- "I... am not used to being refused, but so be it."
- I'll do it.
- "Excellent. As it so happens, I'm a mage by trade. I have access to many magical items from my home of Alinor. Take this. It's a very special memory-gem. I have one active at all times, and this particular one recorded everything that happened in the tavern that night. Take it, and let the guard captain listen to it. Irrefutable evidence! I'm sure he'll see fit to take action then."
Agreeing will start the related quest, during which Bentior will ask for your help in getting the charges dropped. Alternatively, you may also start the question by speaking to Bentior initially:
- Do you ever run into trouble, given your tavern's... shady reputation?
- "Well, honestly, sometimes, I do. I'm only saying this because I suspect you might be able to help me out. You see, there's this snooty Altmer that came through here a few days back. One of those haughty Alinor types. Newcomer to Bruma. Well, he came here, not realizing that the Jerall View would have been... more to his tastes. After he witnessed a few of our, oh, you know, morally gray activities and an exceptional display of promiscuity, well... he decided to leave. Now, in his outrage and disgust, he's planning to try press charges against my tavern. If you could just talk him down, I'd appreciate it."
- I'll do it.
- "Great. He's probably storming around town right now, trying to rabble-rouse against the Watchman. Put a stop to it."
You will however receive short thrift if you ask Cerendil directly to let things lie:
- Bentior wants you to drop the charges.
- "Ha! That isn't going to happen, I'm afraid."
Once you play the recording to the guard captain, they will decline to help. An enraged Cerendil will storm out of Bruma and disappear from the game once you inform him:
- "You're back! Have you played back the memory-gem's recording for the captain? When is s/he arresting that damnable innkeeper?"
- The guard captain said there's nothing in there that can be used against Bentior.
- "Xarxes' backside! I'm leaving this awful town! I've had enough of this cretinous Cyrodiil. I'm returning to Alinor. At least there I'm not assailed by lustful lizards!"
