Rockguard, also known as Hutan-Tzel,[1][UOL 1] is a settlement located in the northwest area of Black Marsh, specifically northwest of Helstrom. It lies on the Panther River, which flows in from the west through the provincial border.[2][3]
Around 2E 582, Hutan-Tzel was an active Argonian settlement. During this period, several local Argonians went missing, leading to suspicions against the Ivory Brigade. However, some Imperial members of that group also disappeared around the same time. Heem-Jas, a tribesman from Su-Zahlel tribe, now residing in Hutan-Tzel, teamed up with a traveling adventurer to investigate the disappearances. They discovered that the totems near the town held latent magic that could attract dangerous creatures and were inscribed with runes known only to the Hutan-Tzel tribe.[4][5] The tribe was guided by Elder Naheesh Nurwul, who eventually agreed to collaborate with Lieutenant Viria of the Brigade.[5][6] Their investigation took them to Xal Irasotl, a nearby xanmeer, where they identified Olik, a local Argonian, as the culprit behind the tampering with ancient relics. He was unaware of the dangers posed by the ancient magic and acted out of a desire to protect his people, believing certain Imperials to be a threat. However, the risks associated with the relics were ultimately neutralized.[5][7] Ultimately, this collaboration improved relations between the Hutan-Tzel people and the Imperials,[5][4] leading to negotiations where the tribesmen were open to compromises. Olik was punished by the tribe.[6][8]
During the Imperial Simulacrum in the late Third Era, Rockguard was ruled by Lord Hericus and had a rivalry with Glenbridge.[9] At the time, Rockguard was neighbored by several settlements, including Glenbridge to the far south-southwest, and Stormhold to the far northeast.[2]
